Mogadishu (Raxanreeb Online) – In a tragic incident in the Soona-key neighborhood of Hodan District, Banadir region, two civilians have been reported dead and another injured after a government soldier opened fire on local residents.
According to eyewitnesses, tensions had been mounting after residents protested against the forced demolition of their homes. The incident reportedly escalated when an armed soldier fired into the crowd. Disturbing accounts from locals include allegations that the soldier deliberately targeted a 14-year-old girl. Additionally, one of the injured individuals later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.
Community members have voiced strong concerns over what they perceive as an encroachment on their land. “Soona-key is not state land. They are trying to seize our property,” one local woman said. “There is no one speaking out for us—only orders from the Hodan district. We are the victims of these actions, and we urge our leaders to take notice,” she added.
So far, no official statement has been issued by Hodan district authorities regarding the deaths and the use of lethal force by the government soldier. The incident has intensified local fears, with residents warning that without decisive intervention, those determined to appropriate their land might resort to further resistance.
