At the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi held important discussions with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Osman Saleh. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the UNGA, focused on promoting peace, security, and cooperation among the three countries.
Somalia emphasized its commitment to strengthening ties with both Egypt and Eritrea, aiming for regional stability. Minister Fiqi highlighted a recent military agreement with Egypt, marking a new strategic partnership for mutual security. Egypt expressed its readiness to support Somalia’s stability by participating in peacekeeping missions.
Discussions also covered expanding training programs for Somali officials at Egypt’s Diplomatic Studies Institute, aiming to boost Somalia’s diplomatic skills. Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Saleh emphasized the importance of regional peace, with talks including security management and economic cooperation.
Both Egypt and Eritrea praised Somalia’s progress in governance and peace efforts. The ministers agreed to explore trade opportunities, cultural exchanges, and direct air routes between their capitals, aiming to strengthen economic and cultural ties. These talks highlighted a shared commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Horn of Africa.
