Mogadishu Security Tightened Amid Rising Threat Concerns

Security measures in Mogadishu have been significantly heightened, with intensified vehicle inspections at checkpoints managed by the Somali Police Force and National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA). These efforts aim to ensure public safety and prevent potential threats to the capital.

The enhanced vigilance follows a directive from senior security officials after recent incidents where vehicles, including Bajaj tuk-tuks and private cars, were intercepted carrying improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In a key operation, explosives were safely neutralized at a checkpoint, averting potential harm.

Police have also arrested armed gangs responsible for a series of robberies targeting civilians. These criminals, who used light weapons to intimidate and harm residents, were apprehended along with their firearms, bringing relief to affected communities.

Vehicle inspections have been intensified in districts such as Garasbaaley, Kaxda, Dharkenley, and Wadajir, with all vehicles subjected to thorough checks. Additional checkpoints have also been established in northern districts, including Heliwaa, Kaaraan, and Yaaqshiid, to address emerging threats effectively.
