Gunmen Kill Three Business owners in Mogadishu

Three businesspeople were killed today near Ahmed Gurey School in Daaru-Salaam, a district in Banadir region. The victims were reportedly attacked within their own stores while tending to daily business operations. Gunmen armed with pistols are alleged to have carried out the shootings, swiftly escaping the scene after targeting the business owners.

Sources indicate that the slain shopkeepers had CCTV cameras installed, a measure mandated by the government to enhance security in the capital. Authorities had previously ordered businesses to set up surveillance systems, warning of punitive action for non-compliance to bolster public safety measures amid ongoing threats.

This directive has reportedly drawn threats from Al-Shabaab, who warned that merchants complying with security protocols, such as installing CCTV, would be targeted. The group has specifically opposed measures they believe may be used for intelligence gathering.

Government security forces arrived at the crime scene, launching an operation in the Ahmed Gurey area of Daaru-Salaam district. Local reports state that several suspects have been detained for questioning, though official statements from security agencies are pending. Tensions remain high in the area, with some businesses temporarily shutting down in response to the incident.
