At least two soldiers were killed and several others wounded in a hand grenade attack at Beled-Hawo district’s police station, residents said on Saturday.
The attack targeted the first checkpoint of the district’s police station, killing two soldiers and wounding others, including civilians, according to a resident who asked not to be named.
Following the explosion, police forces at the scene reportedly opened fire, but no additional fatalities have been reported so far.
The motive for the attack is not yet known, but Al-Shabaab, the Somalia-based Al-Qaeda-linked group has been known to orchestrate similar attacks in the past.
