The Somalia Civil Aviation Authority has announced that it will temporarily close the Mogadishu Airport for 24 hours on the day of the election on December 25th, 2025.
In a notice issued through the Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), the government said the move was due to the local elections.
The authority has informed travel agencies, airlines, and the general public that on the 25th of December there will be no aircraft movement at the airport, and it’s designed to facilitate security and logistical arrangements for the Banadir regional local elections.
The authority has further urged travelers, airlines, and travelers to consult the official NOTAM for exact timing, safety measures, and operational updates during the temporary shutdown.
The federal government minister of security, H.E. Abdullahi Shiekh Ismail, confirmed that over 10,000 security officers will be deployed across Mogadishu to safeguard the polling station and residents participating in the polls.
Preparations are underway in the Banadir area as residents are set to make history after 57 years to participate in a one-person-one-vote system.
