Mogadishu women lead a massive rally to condemn Israeli interference

Hundreds of women in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu marched in the streets towards the Daljirka Dahsoon (Unknown Soldier) monument as they protested against the recent Israeli recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state.

The demonstration included mothers, students, and civil society leaders, who have now joined the ever-growing wave of national fury following the pronouncement made by the State of Israel on December 26th, 2025.

The director of the women’s development ministry of Family and Human Rights, Sacdiyo Maxamed Nuur, said the women of Somalia are opposing any plans intended to divide Somalia.

“The unity and independence of the country cannot be opposed, and the Somali women are voicing strongly that some regions of Somalia can’t be recognized,” said Director Sacdiyo.

Her sentiments were echoed by their lady of Jawaahir Baarqab, who said that Somalia cannot be separated and the people of Somalia will not be separated, as they insisted that they will continue to come out in large numbers to protest against what they termed as Israel’s interference in the independence of Somalia.

The Chairlady of the women’s association of Raaraan District, Suldaano Ahmed, lauded President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s efforts in the fight for Somalia’s sovereignty and warned that they will not allow a nation like Israel, which has ‘wet blood of Palestinians’ in their hand, to destroy the unity of Somalia.

The march comes amid a series of diplomatic shocks in the Horn of Africa. A statement from the Union of Somali Ulema Council, which was part of the demonstrations, maintained that the defense of Somalia’s borders was not just a military duty but a civilian one.

The women demonstrators also issued a joint declaration calling on the African Union and the United Nations to intervene before the matter metamorphosizes into a regional crisis.
