Family of Kenyan Soldier Held by Al-Shabaab for Nine Years Appeals for Help

NAIROBI, Kenya – The family of Abdullahi Issa Ibrahim, a Kenyan soldier held captive by Al-Shabaab for nearly a decade, has urged the government to secure his release. Ibrahim was captured during the El Adde attack in 2016 and was presumed dead.

Hope resurfaced when a video showed Ibrahim alive, contradicting a death certificate issued in 2020. In the footage, he pleads for government intervention to reunite him with his family.

Ibrahim’s daughter, Kathra, living in Eldoret, confirmed her father’s survival after receiving a call from someone claiming to be him. Visual proof provided by the caller brought both relief and concern for his well-being.

Another Kenyan soldier from Trans-Nzoia also appeared in the video, pleading for help. The families are now urging the government to act swiftly and bring their loved ones home.
