The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in a program organized by the Council on Foreign Relations, where he addressed the overall situation of the country, focusing on security, politics, the economy, and dialogue with Somaliland.
The President highlighted Somalia’s achievements in the fight against Al-Shabaab, particularly in areas that have been liberated and in the ongoing mobilization efforts.
“The war we are engaged in is not only military. It also has intellectual and economic dimensions. At present, we have recorded significant and visible progress,” said President Hassan Sheikh.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to building a stable political system, stressing that while the Federal Government is always ready for dialogue, it will not tolerate violence.
The President also confirmed that preparations for a one-person, one-vote electoral process are underway through a nationwide registration exercise.
When asked about Somaliland, President Hassan Sheikh reiterated that his government is always open to dialogue, provided it reflects the preservation of Somalia’s unity.
Finally, he noted that Somalia has been granted debt relief amounting to $5 billion and has established laws and regulatory frameworks to facilitate investment, particularly in the country’s natural resources, including oil, gas, and marine wealth.
