Puntland Police Commander Resigns Amid Escalating Tensions in Ras Asayr

Senior Superintendent Mahad Ali Carcar, commander of the Puntland Police Force’s Ras Asayr regional unit, has tendered his resignation following an internal dispute with Puntland Police Commissioner Gen. Mumin Abdi Shire.

In a formal letter submitted to the Office of the President of Puntland, Carcar said he was relinquishing all responsibilities associated with his position, citing irreconcilable differences with the force’s general command over operational and management procedures during his tenure.

“Mr President, I, Senior Superintendent Mahad Ali Carcar, hereby inform you that I have resigned from the post and the responsibilities I held in service of the people of Puntland, due to our failure to reach an understanding regarding the working system of the Puntland Police Force’s general command during the period I was in office,” the letter read.

The resignation comes against the backdrop of prolonged tensions in Ras Asayr, where local disputes have persisted in recent months. Puntland’s Ministry of Interior recently summoned regional and district officials from Ras Asayr to Garowe for consultations on the region’s evolving security and administrative situation.
