Somali Forces Eliminate 10 Al-Shabaab Militants in Southern Mudug Operation

The Somali National Army (SNA) conducted a successful military operation in the early hours of Tuesday, targeting Al-Shabaab hideouts in the Southern Mudug region. According to the Ministry of Defense, the operation near Qeycad village resulted in the elimination of 10 militants and the destruction of key terrorist strongholds.

Utilizing ground forces and intelligence assets, the operation marked a critical step in ongoing efforts to disrupt Al-Shabaab’s activities. Following the strike, SNA forces have continued their pursuit of remaining militants, aiming to prevent their regrouping and escape to other areas.

The Minister of Defense reaffirmed the government’s dedication to eradicating Al-Shabaab, stating, “This operation is a vital part of our larger strategy to secure Somalia by removing terrorist elements wherever they operate.”

This action is part of a broader campaign designed to weaken Al-Shabaab’s influence across the country. These coordinated efforts, supported by local forces and international partners, are viewed as essential to stabilizing Somalia and reclaiming territories previously under insurgent control. Local residents have expressed cautious optimism, hoping the sustained military pressure will lead to lasting peace and security, allowing displaced communities to return and rebuild their lives. The Somali military’s improving capabilities, bolstered by international training and support, have been central to the progress in reclaiming areas long inaccessible to the government.
