Somali Forces Launch Major Anti-Al-Shabaab Operation Near Jamaame

The Somali National Army’s 43rd Division, supported by the elite Danab Commandos, has carried out major security operations targeting Al-Shabaab in several villages near Jamaame in the Lower Juba region, according to military officials.

The operations, which lasted several hours, were conducted in Muuse Xaaji, Araare, Koban, Bangeeni, Maleyleey, Baladu-Raxma and Maam-Bile. Officials said these areas had recently served as hideouts and movement corridors for Al-Shabaab fighters.

A statement issued by the army reported that the forces destroyed several Al-Shabaab storage facilities and coordination centres and seized military equipment, including communication tools and logistical supplies used by the group. Militants hiding in the area were also forced out, although no official casualty figures were released. The troops additionally uncovered a number of underground tunnels used by Al-Shabaab to move between the nearby villages.

During the ground offensive, air units from the Federal Government conducted targeted strikes on locations identified by the troops. The airstrikes destroyed several small bases and supply points belonging to the group. Commanders leading the operation said the aerial support played an essential role in weakening Al-Shabaab’s defensive positions and disrupting their operational capabilities.

Security officials noted that the Somali National Army is continuing clearance operations around Jamaame to prevent militants from regrouping or returning to the villages recently secured. They added that the mission is part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the Lower Juba region and restore long-term security to communities affected by Al-Shabaab activity.
