Somalia’s Federal Government forces have reported killing five fighters from Al-Shabaab during a planned security operation in the Gedo region.

According to an official press statement, the operation was conducted in the Ceel Cilaan area, approximately 30 kilometres east of Baardheere district. The forces said the targeted militants had been posing security threats and causing hardship to local communities in the area.

The statement noted that, in addition to the reported fatalities, the operation resulted in the dismantling of Al-Shabaab’s presence in Ceel Cilaan.

Government forces described the operation as part of broader, ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability, emphasizing that the primary objective remains the protection of civilians’ lives and property.
