In a televised address from Mogadishu, Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to national unity and sovereignty as the National Consultation Conference continues. PM Barre emphasized that the discussions are making progress with ongoing consultations aimed at finalizing the summit’s communiqué.

“We are committed to safeguarding the unity, dignity, and sovereignty of the Somali people, and we will refrain from any actions that could divide us,” the Prime Minister stated.

Despite the optimistic tone, PM Barre did not address the recent withdrawal of Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe from the conference, reportedly due to disagreements over the electoral model for upcoming elections. Madobe’s absence has sparked concerns about regional tensions within Somalia’s federal system.

The conference, attended by representatives from various federal states, international partners, and civil society groups, seeks to tackle key issues such as security, federalism, and economic development. The outcome of these discussions is expected to significantly impact Somalia’s political trajectory as the country confronts governance and security challenges.
