Somalia Appoints New Head of Criminal Investigation Department

The Federal Government of Somalia has announced the appointment of a new commander to lead the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Somali Police Force.

Ibraahim Dhaayoow has been named as the new head of the CID, replacing the outgoing commander, according to official sources. Dhaayoow is a senior police officer who previously served within the Presidential Guard, where he was involved in the security arrangements of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

He is expected to formally assume office following an official handover process in the coming days.

The CID, a specialised unit of the Somali Police Force, is responsible for investigating serious crimes, supporting criminal inquiries, processing suspects, and coordinating with international law enforcement bodies, including Interpol, particularly in efforts to track and arrest wanted individuals.

The appointment is part of broader efforts by federal authorities to strengthen law enforcement leadership and enhance investigative capacity as part of ongoing security reforms across the country.
