Somalia’s Electoral Commission Sets November 30 as Date for Banadir Local Council Elections

Mogadishu – The Chairperson of the National Independent Electoral Commission, Abdikarim Ahmed Ali, has announced that local council elections in Banadir region will be held at the end of November this year.

Speaking at a press conference at the Commission’s headquarters, Chairman Abdikarim urged citizens to prepare to actively participate in the landmark “one person, one vote” elections.
“On November 30th, every resident of Mogadishu should be ready to cast their vote in the upcoming local council elections,” he stated.

He also called on registered political associations to complete their legal requirements, including the formal submission of their official party symbols to the Commission.

The Electoral Commission had earlier announced that the elections would take place at the end of October, but the process was postponed for unspecified reasons.

The Federal Government of Somalia has been working to implement direct “one person, one vote” elections across the country, beginning with the local council elections, which mark a significant step toward strengthening democratic governance and citizen participation.
