Mogadishu – Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has made it clear: anyone coming into Somalia will now need a visa, no exceptions.
Speaking in a recent address, the President said the new E-visa system—introduced on September 1—marks a turning point for the country as it pushes further into digital services and modern governance.
“Just as Somalis cannot travel abroad without a visa, foreigners — including those of Somali heritage — cannot enter Somalia without one,” he explained.
The new online visa platform has quickly become a talking point across the country, with many seeing it as a sign that Somalia is catching up with global standards. Officials say the system will make travel easier to manage, improve security at the borders, and bring more transparency to the process.
Beyond travel policy, President Mohamud also touched on unfinished political business. He stressed that completing Somalia’s provisional constitution remains a priority, describing it as the foundation for ending repeated political disputes and guiding the country toward stability.
