Hargeisa – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), is today leading a delegation to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, for a series of high-level meetings with Ethiopian government officials, according to diplomatic sources.
Although the agenda of the visit has not been publicly disclosed, the trip is viewed as a sensitive diplomatic engagement focusing on the relationship between Somaliland and Ethiopia. The visit follows Ethiopia’s controversial agreement with the previous administration of former President Muse Bihi Abdi, a deal widely condemned as violating Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.
President Cirro recently returned from an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he attended a special conference and held meetings with senior Emirati officials. However, details of the discussions and outcomes were not made public.
Ethiopia has expressed continued interest in maintaining and expanding its ties with Somaliland. Nevertheless, President Cirro has been among those who strongly questioned and opposed the earlier maritime access deal, calling it unconstitutional and harmful to Somalia’s territorial integrity.
The visit comes at a time of growing political tension within Somaliland and amid regional shifts in the Horn of Africa, making the talks between President Cirro and Ethiopian leaders particularly significant for the region’s political landscape.
