Somali PM Hamza Barre Reshuffles Cabinet, Appoints New Ministers

Mogadishu (Raxanreeb Online) – In a significant move aimed at reshaping Somalia’s government, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has announced a cabinet reshuffle, appointing new ministers and deputy ministers to key positions. This shake-up is expected to bring fresh perspectives and stronger leadership to various ministries, especially in areas critical to national security, economic growth, and social development.

Among the most notable changes, Jibriil Abdirashid Haji has been appointed as the new Minister of Defense, a crucial role at a time when Somalia continues its fight against insecurity and terrorism. He replaces Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama, who will now lead the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport, a sector vital for trade and economic development.

Other key appointments include Mahmoud Ahmed Aden (Geesood) as Minister of Commerce and Industry, responsible for boosting business and industrial growth, and Mohamed Farah Nur, who will now head the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, overseeing Somalia’s growing air and road networks. Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali takes on the role of Minister of Youth and Sports, a position crucial for engaging the country’s young population.

To ensure smooth operations within various ministries, the Prime Minister has also appointed several deputy ministers:

  • Sahuur Haji Culusow Hassan – Deputy Minister of Energy and Water
  • Sulub Ahmed Firin – Deputy Minister of Internal Security
  • Mahmoud Abdullahi Ahmed (Abukate) – Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry
  • Amina Hussein Ali – Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs
  • Hussein Ali Haji – Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change
  • Fartuun Abdulkadir Farah – Deputy Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport
  • Mohamed Adan Mohamed – Deputy Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development
  • Mohamed Hussein Abukar (Gaaraxo) – Deputy Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing
  • Dahabo Suusow Muunye – Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports
  • Osman Ahmed Macow – Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments
