Cairo — Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, met in Cairo with Egypt’s Minister of Defence, Gen. Abdel Majeed Saqr, and senior Egyptian military officials to discuss strengthening bilateral military cooperation and supporting regional peace and stability.
According to the Somali side, the talks focused on expanding defence collaboration between the two countries and aligning efforts to bolster security across the Horn of Africa. Minister Fiqi praised Egypt’s visible role in promoting peace and stability in the region, noting that Mogadishu and Cairo share a common strategic outlook on issues of mutual interest.
For his part, Gen. Saqr reiterated Egypt’s readiness to deepen military ties with Somalia. He also noted that Egyptian troops assigned to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) are expected to deploy to Somalia in the near future, as part of broader efforts to support stabilization and security operations.
Both sides framed the meeting as part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation, improve regional security coordination, and advance shared strategic objectives.
