Deadly Clan Clashes Between Two Militias Erupt in Western Mudug

(Raxanreeb Online) Heavy fighting between two clan militias broke out in the areas of Jiicboor and Saax Quraan, located in the western part of Mudug region, central Somalia.

According to eyewitnesses and residents, both sides engaged in intense gunfire, using heavy weapons. The exact number of casualties remains unknown as information from the area remains limited due to the ongoing clashes and restricted access.

Local sources say the conflict stems from a long-standing clan dispute, which has remained unresolved despite previous reconciliation efforts. The situation has raised serious concern among communities already affected by recurring violence in the region.

“The sound of gunfire has been ongoing since morning. Families are sheltering indoors, afraid to come out,” one resident told Raxanreeb Online by phone.

Traditional elders and community leaders are now urging an immediate ceasefire and calling on both sides to engage in peaceful dialogue to prevent further bloodshed. They have also appealed to the Galmudug regional administration to take urgent steps to de-escalate the situation.

So far, the Galmudug authorities have not released an official statement regarding the fighting, despite growing calls for intervention.

This latest outbreak of violence adds to a series of recurring inter-clan conflicts that have affected central Somalia in recent years, often flaring up over land, resources, or historical grievances.
