CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast commitment to supporting Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity during a phone call with his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Maalim Fiqi, on Saturday.
The Egyptian foreign ministry released a statement emphasizing the deepening ties between the two nations. During their conversation, Minister Fiqi updated Abdelatty on the outcomes of the recent Ankara Trilateral Summit held on Wednesday, which brought together Somalia, Turkey, and Ethiopia.
The two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination in preparation for an upcoming trilateral ministerial meeting involving Egypt, Somalia, and Eritrea. The anticipated meeting, they noted, underscores the strong emphasis that leaders from the three nations place on fostering dialogue and addressing shared regional concerns.
The discussion also highlighted the strategic and growing relationship between Egypt and Somalia. Both Abdelatty and Fiqi expressed their commitment to building on the positive momentum in bilateral relations over recent months. They agreed on the importance of strengthening political, economic, and trade partnerships to benefit both nations.
In their concluding remarks, the diplomats emphasized the need to follow up on the outcomes of the October trilateral summit in Asmara, which brought together the presidents of Egypt, Somalia, and Eritrea. They pledged to sustain the collaborative spirit that has characterized their recent engagements.
