Mogadishu Mayor Reopens Key Roads Previously Closed for Security Reasons

The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of the Benadir Regional Administration, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), has officially reopened three major roads that had been closed for security reasons.

The reopened roads include the route from the Aadan Adde International Airport checkpoint at KM4 to the Tiitinley neighbourhood in Wadajir District, the road passing through the Waaberi Bridge, and the Beexaani Road connecting Sanca Junction to Engineer Yarisow Stadium.

The reopening ceremony was attended by senior officials including the Banadir Regional Intelligence Commander, Liibaan Abdirahman Adan, the Regional Police Commander, Colonel Macalin Mahdi, and other representatives from the city administration and security agencies.

Governor Dr. Muungaab stated that the reopening of these roads is part of a broader initiative aimed at restoring public confidence and enhancing the stability of Mogadishu. He added that it aligns with the Benadir Regional Administration’s urban development programme to improve mobility and boost the city’s economy.

He underlined that these steps reflect the success of the Somali people and security forces who have bravely worked to ensure that Mogadishu gradually regains its peace and resilience against attempts by extremist groups to disrupt civilian life.

The broader road rehabilitation project aims to reopen a total of 52 roads to reduce traffic congestion, improve public services, and stimulate economic growth in the city. The administration recently reopened the road running behind the Mogadishu Municipality Headquarters.
