GAALKACYO (PUNTLAND) – The Puntland State Government has launched a renewed effort to address the surge in clan-related killings in the Mudug region, particularly in the northern areas of Gaalkacyo city.
President Said Abdullahi Deni on Monday held a high-level meeting with traditional elders, security chiefs, and senior officials to discuss concrete steps toward ending the revenge-driven violence that has claimed multiple lives in recent weeks.
According to the Puntland Presidency, security agencies have been directed to crack down on armed militias involved in the ongoing blood feuds and to take “firm and decisive measures” to prevent further killings.
The meeting, attended by elders, members of the Mudug Regional Council, federal lawmakers, and other local leaders, focused on enhancing community cooperation, strengthening law enforcement, and promoting dialogue between rival groups.
President Deni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region, warning that the government will take strong action against anyone undermining security, particularly those targeting businesspeople, medical professionals, and other prominent community members.
Authorities in Puntland have vowed to continue working closely with local elders and community representatives to ensure that the cycle of revenge killings in northern Gaalkacyo comes to an end.
