The Federal Government of Somalia has provided details of a security operation carried out in the Moora-gaabey area, located approximately 37 kilometres from Xudur, the capital of Bakool region in the South West State.
In a statement, the government said the operation was carefully planned and executed, resulting in the killing of three members of Al-Shabaab. More than ten other militants were reported wounded during the operation, according to the same statement.
The operation was led by units from the Somali National Army, specifically the 9th Battalion of the 60th Division, which also seized military equipment, including weapons and ammunition, that had been in use by the Al-Shabaab fighters who were killed or injured.
Colonel Mohamed Yariis Aadan, Commander of the 60th Division, told the media that this operation forms part of a series of coordinated offensives against Al-Shabaab currently under way across the South West State. He stressed that such operations will continue until the group’s presence and capability in the region are significantly degraded.
