Somali Army Deals Major Blow to Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle region

In a significant military operation conducted over the past few hours, Somali National Army (SNA) forces have dealt a heavy blow to Al-Shabaab militants in the Shabeelaha Hoose region. The operation, carried out in the villages of Kaliga, Libaaxle, Kaxaroow, Doonka, and Bululoow, has resulted in the deaths of at least 24 Al-Shabaab fighters, with over 30 others injured.

According to a statement released by government sources, the operation was led by the 7th Brigade of the Somali National Army. The brigade, under the command of Brigadier General Ahmed Abdi Ali, known as “Ahmed Gaashaan,” successfully targeted the militants, who were reportedly preparing to carry out terrorist activities in the region.

General Ali confirmed that the operation took the militants by surprise, with SNA forces launching a swift and covert attack on their positions. “More than 24 of the militants were killed, and over 30 were injured in this operation. The soldiers acted with precision, preventing planned attacks on civilian and military targets,” said General Ali.

The statement also noted that the bodies of the militants were transported to the nearby villages of Buulo Madiino and Cumar Beyre for burial. The Somali forces, including members of the 64th and 54th battalions, are continuing their pursuit of the remaining Al-Shabaab fighters who fled during the operation.

The Somali government has vowed to intensify its military operations against Al-Shabaab in the coming days, as part of a broader campaign to secure the region and eliminate the threat posed by the extremist group.
