Mogadishu (Raxanreeb Online) — The Somali government has confirmed that its security forces have successfully ended an armed assault by Al-Shabaab militants on the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) detention facility, widely known as Godka Jilacow, in Mogadishu.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Internal Security, the attack, which began with a car explosion at the entrance of the intelligence compound, was swiftly repelled. All seven attackers were killed at the scene.
“The security forces responded immediately and brought the situation under control within a short time, killing all seven assailants,” the ministry said.
Officials said the militants used a Cabdi-Bile pickup truck painted in NISA colours and carrying security markings to disguise themselves as government forces. They also wore uniforms resembling those of Somali security officers, allowing them to pass through several checkpoints before reaching the facility.
The government condemned the attack and ordered tighter control of security vehicles and weapons within the capital, noting that the incident highlighted the urgent need for stricter verification of all vehicles bearing military colours.
“This incident demonstrates the immediate necessity to enforce existing regulations on the movement of armed forces’ vehicles and weapons inside the city,” the statement added.
The government extended its condolences to the families of soldiers who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. Casualties were reported among security personnel, and the wounded were taken to hospitals in Mogadishu.
Authorities say normalcy has since returned to the area following the failed assault.
