MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali National Armed Forces (SNA) have successfully defended their bases in Raskamboni, Lower Juba, from an attack reportedly led by Jubaland regional forces under Ahmed Madoobe. The Somali Ministry of Defense confirmed the incident on Wednesday, highlighting concerns about potential ties between Madoobe’s forces and the al-Shabaab militant group.
The attack targeted forward operating bases where SNA troops were working to strengthen security and prepare for expanded anti-terror operations in the area. The SNA stood their ground, maintaining control of the region and ensuring stability for local communities.
In a strong statement, the Ministry of Defense accused Madoobe of working with al-Shabaab, noting that his forces could only have reached Raskamboni by crossing al-Shabaab-controlled territory. “This collaboration undermines our national security and sovereignty,” the ministry said, vowing to take legal action against those involved.
The Somali government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its soldiers and citizens, pledging to step up anti-terror efforts in Lower Juba. “We remain dedicated to ensuring safety and stability for the people of Somalia and will not tolerate actions that threaten our progress,” the statement added.
