Somali PM Sends Apparent Threatening Message to Puntland and Jubbaland

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has said that no country can possess honour and dignity without a strong military, underscoring the need to build armed forces with both capability and sound values to protect the faith, the people, and the nation.

Marking the occasion, the Prime Minister extended his congratulations to military officers, deputy officers, non-commissioned personnel, soldiers of the Somali National Army, and their families. He stressed that securing the country’s borders is the first pillar of national security, noting that a country whose borders are not protected is like an open house filled with valuable property, inviting the greed of anyone who sees it.

Prime Minister Hamza also praised the achievements of the Somali National Army in the fight against Al-Shabaab, particularly in the regions of Bay, Bakool, Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle, and Lower Jubba, where the group has suffered major defeats. He further expressed appreciation for the international support provided by Somalia’s partners to the armed forces.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of caring for military orphans, wounded personnel, and retired members of the forces. He noted that a care facility was inaugurated today and that an institution dedicated to serving them had been established in order to safeguard their rights and ensure their welfare.
