Somalia accuses Ethiopia of smuggling Weapons

The Somali government has accused Ethiopia of smuggling weapons into Somalia for the second time in recent months, which has increased tensions between the two countries. In a statement, the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Ethiopia had sent weapons to the Puntland region without approval from the Somali federal government, violating Somalia’s sovereignty.

According to the ministry, two lorries carrying weapons entered Puntland from Ethiopia, a situation similar to past incidents where weapons were reportedly transported to the Galmudug region and flown into Baidoa without permission. The ministry expressed concern that these repeated actions show a lack of respect for Somalia’s sovereignty.

A video shared on social media showed two trucks escorted by Ethiopian security in the town of Bookh, near the border. Later, the same trucks were seen in Garowe, the capital of Puntland, guarded by local security forces. As of now, Puntland authorities have not commented on the contents of the trucks, and Ethiopia has also remained silent. The exact details of whether the trucks contained weapons have not been confirmed
