MOGADISHU, Somalia — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has extended his condolences following the death of Senator Mohamed Ali Yusuf Gaagaab in Turkey, according to a statement released by the presidency on Tuesday.
The president praised Senator Gaagaab for his dedication and service to the Somali people. “Senator Gaagaab’s contributions to our nation will be remembered and honored,” Mohamud said.
The senator, who had traveled to Turkey for medical treatment, was widely respected for his efforts to promote peace and development in Somalia. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Senator Gaagaab was a prominent figure in Somali politics, serving on several key Senate committees. He was particularly known for his advocacy for education and infrastructure improvements in his region, earning admiration from both colleagues and constituents.
