CAIRO (Raxanreeb Online) – Somalia is stepping up to play a crucial role in rebuilding Sudan’s military as the country faces ongoing conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a group reportedly backed by the United Arab Emirates. This move reflects Somalia’s growing commitment to fostering stability in the region and supporting a key ally.
A significant part of Somalia’s contribution involves hosting Sudanese troops for training at the TurkSom military base in Mogadishu. The facility, a cornerstone of Somalia’s partnership with Turkey, has been identified as a strategic hub for enhancing the capabilities of Sudan’s armed forces. Turkey, in collaboration with Somalia, has pledged military support to Sudan, underscoring the importance of regional solidarity.
Somalia’s role goes beyond logistics. The Somali government has worked alongside Turkey, Egypt, and Eritrea to design a comprehensive plan aimed at bolstering Sudan’s military strength. This collective effort seeks to equip Sudanese forces to better address the challenges posed by the RSF conflict.
For Sudan, Somalia stands out as a trusted ally within the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). The Sudanese government has expressed confidence in Somalia’s sincerity and neutrality, particularly after IGAD suggested mediating between the rival generals in Sudan’s conflict.
This initiative was solidified during a high-level foreign ministers’ meeting in Cairo. The meeting concluded with an agreement that Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia would collaborate in providing military training to Sudanese forces, marking a united regional front against instability.
