Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has dismissed Abdirashid Jiley, his Health and Nutrition advisor, following a controversial video statement. In the video, Jiley expressed support for Ethiopia and criticized the Somali government’s plan to allow Egyptian troops into the country. His remarks have sparked concern over Somalia’s military alliances and regional stability.
Jiley, who is also a member of parliament, emphasized Ethiopia’s importance in protecting southern Somalia. He warned that replacing Ethiopian forces with Egyptian troops could increase tensions in the region. His comments have stirred significant debate, as they contradict the official government position.
The dismissal highlights the sensitivity surrounding Somalia’s military relationships and the broader regional dynamics. By removing Jiley from his advisory role, President Mohamud appears to be reinforcing his administration’s stance on maintaining balanced relations with neighboring countries.
