Somaliland Raises Security Alert After Israel Recognition

Somaliland authorities have tightened security measures following the recognition of Israel and the recent visit to Hargeisa by Israel’s Foreign Minister.

Security agencies have introduced revised procedures for vehicle and personal screening, registration processes, and access control. Several locations have been designated as restricted areas for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Public transport and government vehicles are undergoing enhanced inspections at multiple checkpoints across Hargeisa and its outskirts. Vehicles bearing official government markings are also subject to additional scrutiny.

Residents have been instructed not to park vehicles in front of homes, business premises, or public gathering areas, and to relocate parked vehicles away from such locations. Authorities said the measures are intended to strengthen public security.

In addition, citizens are required to obtain an official identification card. Registration centres have reported heavy turnout, with long queues and extended waiting times.

Movement around the Presidential Palace, the residence of Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cirro, and other sensitive locations has been restricted. Individuals, including those holding valid identification, are being subjected to intensified security checks.

The measures follow recent diplomatic developments involving Israel and have been presented by authorities as precautionary steps to maintain stability in Somaliland.
