MOGADISHU, Somalia — Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre opened the Government-Business Partnership Conference on Combating Terrorism Financing in Mogadishu today, marking a critical step in Somalia’s fight against terrorism. The conference brought together government officials, business leaders, and civil society representatives to address the financial networks enabling terrorist groups.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Barre called for collective action to dismantle the financial underpinnings of terrorist organizations, particularly the Khawarij. “The future of our nation depends on cutting off the resources that sustain terrorism. This is a shared fight that requires contributions from every sector of society,” he said. Barre emphasized the importance of identifying and holding accountable those involved in funding or facilitating terrorist activities.
The conference focused on practical strategies to strengthen regulations, enhance intelligence sharing, and disrupt illicit financial flows. Business leaders pledged to work alongside the government to secure Somalia’s financial systems, while civil society groups highlighted the need for vigilance at the community level. Attendees agreed on the urgency of a coordinated approach to protect Somalia’s security and stability.
