The Somalia National Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has mobilized over 5000 election officers to oversee the Christmas election proceedings in the Banadir region.

In a meeting with over 20 political organizations who are contesting for the 390 council seats, the NIEBC chairman, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, said the commission is ready to conduct the polls.

“We are ready for the polls; we anticipate a successful election that will give the public the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right and choose their leaders of choice,” said the NIEBC chairman.

He further called upon the locals to collect their voting cards at the local collection centers, which will be open throughout Monday, noting that no one will be allowed to vote without their biometric card.

The commission has also released a list of polling stations and centers throughout the capital, Mogadishu.
Dayniile district topped the list with the highest number of polling centers, registering 70 polling stations; Dharkeenleey has 69 polling stations, Yaaqshiid has 65 polling stations, Kaaran has 63 polling stations, and Hodan registered 55 polling stations.
