Former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has voiced significant concerns about the current state of security, political stability, and economic conditions in Somalia. Speaking at an event in Mogadishu to welcome new members, including lawmakers joining his political party, Sheikh Sharif did not hold back in expressing his dissatisfaction with the status quo. He emphasized the importance of national cohesion, stating that urgent changes are required to ensure Somalia’s future.
During his address, Sheikh Sharif highlighted the rising insecurity that continues to challenge Somali citizens and government institutions. He underscored the growing threats posed by Alshabab and other security issues, expressing alarm that the government’s response has been insufficient. He warned that without substantial changes, the situation might worsen, threatening the safety of citizens and stability within the region.
Politically, the former president criticized the tendency towards authoritarianism, making it clear that such governance would not be tolerated in Somalia. “The country cannot be governed under a single authoritarian power,” he stated, emphasizing Somalia’s longstanding commitment to democratic principles and participatory governance. His remarks reflected a strong stance against any potential centralization of power and called for political reforms to reinforce democratic institutions.
