Kismayo, Somalia – The Jubbaland Ministry of Internal Security has voiced deep concern over the arrival of federal troops in the Lower Jubba region, describing the deployment as unauthorized and a potential threat to the region’s stability and governance.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, soldiers were airlifted from Mogadishu to Raskambooni earlier today to undertake military operations. While the specific objectives of the deployment remain unclear, Jubbaland officials have interpreted the move as part of a broader effort to undermine the autonomy of the regional administration.
The timing of this development has further heightened tensions, following contentious local elections that have already strained relations between the regional and federal governments. Jubbaland’s leadership has accused the central government of interfering in its electoral process and internal governance, describing these actions as detrimental to the region’s stability.
“This deployment raises serious questions about the federal government’s intentions and its respect for regional autonomy,” the statement said. “We urge for dialogue and a collaborative approach to address any security concerns, rather than unilateral actions that risk escalating tensions.”
The Federal Government of Somalia has not yet issued a response to the allegations.
