Somali Army on High Alert as Militants Move into South West Regions

Baydhabo (Raxanreeb Online)A surge in the presence of Al-Shabaab militants has been reported across several areas in the Bay and Bakool regions of Somalia’s South West State, following the group’s recent setbacks in central Somalia.

Local sources and security officials confirm that heavily armed fighters, some traveling in military vehicles, have been seen moving through various rural settlements. The influx is believed to include remnants of Al-Shabaab units that suffered significant losses during recent operations in the Middle Shabelle region.

General Xasan Isaaq Cumar, Commander of the Somali National Army’s 60th Division, spoke to the media about the developments, assuring the public that the military is fully aware of the group’s movements and intentions.

“We’re closely monitoring the enemy. These militants are fleeing after being weakened in the central regions, and now they’re trying to regroup in Bay and Bakool. But we will not allow them to destabilize the region. Our forces are ready to respond and dismantle their plans,” General Xasan stated.

He emphasized that government forces are on high alert and fully prepared to confront any threats posed by the militant group, which has long used remote areas in South West Somalia as strongholds.

Although military pressure has mounted on Al-Shabaab in recent months, parts of South West State remain vulnerable, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by Somali security forces in restoring stability across the country.
