Kismayo, Somalia— In a move that reflects the growing political tensions between Somalia’s federal government and Jubaland, troops have been deployed to the Raaskambuuni area in Lower Juba. Reliable sources confirm that the forces led by Colonel Hassan Iraqi, commander of the Gorgor Special Forces’ 18th Battalion, have established new positions in the region.
The deployment is reportedly part of a broader federal government plan to challenge the administration of Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe. The troops are expected to carry out significant operations in the area, signaling a deeper escalation in the ongoing power struggle.
This military action comes just hours after the conclusion of Jubaland’s presidential election, where Ahmed Madobe was re-elected for a third term. The federal government, led by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, has consistently voiced its opposition to Madobe’s leadership, questioning the legitimacy of his administration and calling for reforms in regional governance.
The timing of the troop deployment highlights the mounting discord between Mogadishu and Kismayo. As political and military maneuvers unfold, the situation underscores the challenges facing Somalia’s federal system and raises concerns about stability in the region.
