Somali President to Attend Grand Egyptian Museum Opening in Cairo

MOGADISHU — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia is set to travel to Egypt for an official visit, where he will attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum — one of the largest cultural and civilizational heritage museums in the world.

The high-profile inauguration will host global leaders, including the Presidents of Palestine, Djibouti and Eritrea, alongside senior delegations from Africa, Europe and Asia. More than 79 countries are expected to be represented, making it one of the most significant cultural events of 2025.

During his stay in Cairo, President Hassan Sheikh is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and other international heads of state to discuss strengthening political ties, security cooperation and regional development opportunities.

Somalia and Egypt maintain a long-standing historical relationship rooted in cultural, religious and political collaboration. Both countries cooperate closely on Red Sea security, educational development, and joint initiatives within the League of Arab States and the African Union.

President Hassan Sheikh is also expected to hold a series of side meetings with other leaders attending the museum inauguration.
