Hargeisa | 3 November 2025 — The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Development of Somaliland has announced a new directive prohibiting civilian, commercial and general aviation aircraft from entering Somaliland’s airspace without official clearance.
The directive will come into effect on 10 November 2025, and applies to all non-military flights. The Ministry says the decision is aimed at strengthening national security, ensuring orderly air traffic, and protecting Somaliland’s territorial and airspace sovereignty.
According to the statement, the measure aligns with international civil aviation agreements and is part of ongoing efforts to improve flight safety, air traffic control, weather forecasting services, and aviation information management across Somaliland’s airspace.
The Ministry added that all air operators must obtain authorization before any flight operated towards or within Somaliland.
