Turkey mediates Somalia-Ethiopia talks over Somaliland Tensions

Official talks between Somalia and Ethiopia are expected to commence in Ankara today, concerning a previous agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia. The Turkish government has organized this meeting to mediate between Somalia and Ethiopia.

The Turkish government issued a press release stating its commitment to mediating between the governments of Somalia and Ethiopia, with the aim of reaching a resolution to the ongoing dispute between the two nations.

Additionally, the Somaliland Minister of Information, speaking on the Turkish-mediated talks, accused the Somali government of attempting to assume the role of signatory in the maritime agreement previously made between Somaliland and Ethiopia.

Somaliland has asserted that while the Somali government may grant certain concessions to Ethiopia during its administration, it cannot cede any territory that belongs to Somaliland.
