MOGADISHU — Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has warned that the country is facing a rapidly worsening crisis, following a meeting he held on Monday night with members of both houses of the Federal Parliament.
Farmaajo said the current situation mirrors the severe famine of 1992, known locally as Caga Barar, noting that many families are now unable to secure daily meals. “There are citizens who eat only every other day,” he said, describing the humanitarian conditions as alarming.
The former president also criticized the federal government’s recent move to reclaim state-owned land, calling the decision “misguided” and urging authorities to suspend the operation immediately.
On the issue of elections, Farmaajo stressed that the government has only six months remaining in its mandate. He called for urgent clarification on the electoral model and the official timetable for holding the next national polls.
