Hargeisa — Raxanreeb Media has learned that the President of Somaliland has approved a plan to receive a group of Palestinians in the coming weeks. According to well-informed sources who spoke to Raxanreeb, the plan is expected to involve the arrival of more than 200 Palestinians together with their families. The sources indicated that those concerned are described as Palestinians who support Israel.
A source familiar with the matter told Raxanreeb that the process could be initiated in the coming weeks. However, no official information has yet been released regarding settlement locations, legal status, or the administrative framework under which the plan would be implemented.
Separately, independent sources cited by Raxanreeb stated that the initiative is being encouraged behind the scenes by the United Arab Emirates, which is known to have significant economic and political influence in Somaliland. The sources noted that the UAE provides substantial financial support to Somaliland, a factor believed to be facilitating progress on the proposed plan.
The development follows earlier remarks by the President of the United States, who told international media that Palestinians living in disputed territories could be resettled in African countries, specifically mentioning Somaliland. Those comments prompted widespread international discussion at the time.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Somalia has publicly rejected any proposal to bring Palestinians onto Somali territory, stating that it would not accept such a move under any circumstances and that it would undermine Somalia’s sovereignty and national interests.
In recent public statements, the President of Somaliland has said that international recognition of the administration may be forthcoming in the coming months. Sources speaking to Raxanreeb suggest that the proposed resettlement plan is being viewed by some as a potential political trade-off linked to the issue of recognition.
The matter has generated considerable debate and concern, particularly regarding its potential security, social, and political implications for Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa. As of the time of publication, Somaliland authorities have not issued any official statement confirming or denying the information reported by Raxanreeb.
