Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has confirmed the killing of two Al-Shabaab senior leaders who have been on their radar in the Jilib district in the middle of the Juba region in a targeted operation conducted on December 10th, 2025.
In a press statement, NISA identified the two leaders as Abullahi Osman Mohammed, alias Engineer Ismail, who they described as a senior operative behind Al-Shabaab’s manufacturing and designing of explosive units.
The other leader was identified as Abdikarim Mohammed Hirsi, alias Qoorlex, a senior operative who managed Al-Shabaab activities within the Juba regions.
Engineer Ismail was among the most wanted Al-Shabaab top leaders in Juba and had a bounty of $5 million. He is believed to be the mastermind behind the devastating truck bombing attack that took place in Mogadishu on October 14th, 2017.
He was also linked to other attacks in other major towns in Somalia before his elimination.
The federal government of Somalia, in partnership with international partners, is on the offensive to flush out the terror group Al-Shabaab, which has been targeting civilians and government infrastructure to paralyze government operations in major towns across Somalia.
