Farmaajo Meets Jubbaland and Puntland Leaders in Mogadishu Amid Political Disputes

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo convened a political meeting in Mogadishu on Saturday with the leaders of Jubbaland and Puntland, in talks focused on Somalia’s current political situation.

Sources familiar with the discussions said the meeting is examining a range of nationally contentious issues, including disputes over the electoral process, disagreements related to constitutional changes, and the broader relationship between the Federal Government and the country’s Federal Member States.

The gathering is also significant as it marks the first in-person meeting between Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) and Farmaajo since the end of their previous political dispute. While the two sides have held telephone discussions in the past, the face-to-face meeting is being viewed by observers as a meaningful step toward reducing political tensions.

Former Banadir Regional Administration Governor Omar Mohamed Mohamud, widely known as Omar “Filish,” was also seen among those in attendance.

Early indications suggest the parties are seeking to launch a renewed phase of dialogue aimed at building mutual understanding, strengthening political stability, and improving cooperation at the national level.
