The High Military Court has delivered its verdict on seven Somali National Army personnel accused of serious crimes, including murder, security disturbances, and land misuse. This case had previously been reviewed by the First-Class Military Court. The defendants were implicated in unrest in the Lower Shabelle region, which stemmed from a dispute over government land. The conflict, related to a construction project, resulted in the death of one individual.
The convicted individuals are Corporal Mahdi Colaad Xiireey, Corporal Nuur Daahir Xersi, Corporal Xasan Cabdulle Samatar, Corporal Maxamed Khaliif Xuseen, Corporal Cabdiqani Cali Xaaji, Corporal Nuur Cabdi Maxamed, and Corporal Axmed Xasan Maxamed. The High Military Court’s final ruling followed a thorough legal process that included the prosecution, defense, witness testimonies, and victim statements.
Corporals Mahdi Colaad Xiireey and Nuur Daahir Xersi were each sentenced to provide 100 camels as blood money for the family of the deceased, Abdullah Mohamed Ibrahim, alongside five years of military imprisonment. Corporal Xasan Cabdulle Samatar received a seven-year prison term, while Corporals Maxamed Khaliif Xuseen, Cabdiqani Cali Xaaji, Nuur Cabdi Maxamed, and Axmed Xasan Maxamed were each sentenced to three years of military imprisonment.
Major General Liibaan Cali Yaroow, Chairman of the High Military Court, emphasized that the court’s decision was reached after carefully considering the arguments from both sides, the evidence presented, and the results of the investigations.
