SNA Troops Take Back Key Areas from Al-Shabaab in Gedo

In a significant military operation in Somalia’s Gedo region, the Somali National Army, along with the Jubbaland Dervishes, successfully regained control of key areas from Al-Shabaab militants along the Luuq-Dolow road. This operation was launched in response to an increase in militant activity, where Al-Shabaab had been threatening and intimidating local residents.

The military action focused on clearing out militant strongholds in the towns of Shataalow, Abow, and Laakey. Officials leading the operation reported that Al-Shabaab suffered heavy losses, and the government forces now have firm control over these previously contested areas.

Ali Hassan Abdi, the deputy commander of the Jubbaland Dervishes in Gedo, shared details about the operation’s success. He emphasized that most of the Gedo region is now under government control, and efforts will continue to free the remaining areas still under militant influence. The goal is to restore peace and stability, allowing the local community to live without fear.

This operation highlights the government’s commitment to fighting insurgency and ensuring security in regions affected by violence. As the military secures these areas, the focus will be on maintaining stability and creating an environment where the residents of Gedo can resume their normal lives and contribute to the region’s development.
