Ambassador Xue praised Somalia’s recent strides in governance and economic recovery. He particularly highlighted the significance of the Ankara Declaration, signed by several East African nations, as a key milestone in regional diplomacy. The declaration, which aims to enhance collaboration on security, economic integration, and environmental issues, reflects Somalia’s growing role in shaping the future of the Horn of Africa.

President Mohamud, in turn, expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support in critical sectors such as infrastructure, health, and education. He underscored the importance of Chinese investment in rebuilding Somalia’s economy, which has faced decades of challenges due to conflict and instability. “China’s contributions to our nation’s recovery are invaluable,” the President said, “and we look forward to deepening this partnership for the benefit of our people.”

A key focus of the discussions was Somalia’s potential integration into China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), an ambitious global infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity and trade. Both sides explored opportunities to link Somalia’s development goals with the BRI, which could significantly boost the country’s economic growth and regional trade potential.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to sustaining dialogue and cooperation. President Mohamud and Ambassador Xue agreed to enhance communication channels to address emerging challenges and capitalize on opportunities, ensuring that the Sino-Somali partnership continues to thrive.

Ambassador Xue’s visit underscores China’s growing engagement in Africa, where it plays an increasingly influential role in peacekeeping, economic development, and regional stability.
